Sir, – The ridiculously renamed Teesside airport, which is nowhere near either the Tees Valley or Durham, now has its information centre closed and operated from Liverpool, we understand, and has lost most of its flights.
What a sad end, but where are all the councillors who approved the renaming and sold it on to Peel Holdings with no management guarantees?
There is a telephone number but no-one at Liverpool is interested in answering it. A couple of weeks ago the car park barriers wouldn’t open, trapping people inside. Later on in the week free parking was available when they stuck open.
The entrance to the airport is a shambles. Motorists are not directed to the short stay car park but come to a stop against a barrier with no signs. There is no drop off zone either. It must be one of the last primitive airports where passengers have both to board the planes unprotected from the elements and stand in the cold again on landing to clear customs and finally wait in the cold for an hour for a taxi – if one is lucky.
Switch from air to rail, travellers find Darlington Station is going to erect barriers because the rail companies cannot have ticket collectors on trains any more after 150 years or more. Is this passenger friendly?
Who is managing these issues with the travelling public in mind? Time to hear from our MPs, or even our MEPs who have had nothing to say yet, on any issue let alone travel, despite there being an election due in a few weeks.
R W SUNLEY West Street, Yarm.
