Sir, – I was astounded to see the D&S Times’ leader column announce the election as being over scarcely before it had begun.
It is presumptuous – to say the least – to declare the result as a foregone conclusion weeks ahead of a single vote having been cast.
The D&S has already “welcomed Anne McIntosh back to Parliament”. The intentions of voters should not be taken for granted in this way.
Ms McIntosh spent more of taxpayers’ money on gardening than a single person receives as a state pension in a whole year.
Members of her own party attempted to deselect her just months ago, and I invite disgruntled Tories to lend me their vote.
There is no doubt in my mind that the Liberal Democrats provide the only serious challenge to the Conservative party in Thirsk and Malton.
Happily, the D&S is not kingmaker.
It’s the voters in this constituency who will decide.
HOWARD KEAL Thirsk and Malton Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate St Nicholas Street, Norton.
