Sir, – In response to B L Crowe “Why bother? (D&S, April 16), while I found his front door I was unable to locate the letterbox.

I therefore left the survey card on the ledge, adjacent to the door, and it must have, inadvertently, fallen to the ground.

As an ordinary member of the public, I am concerned about the decline of this country over the last 12 years under the present Government. The situation is so grave that people must now revert from being apathetic and vote for change.

Good must prevail over bad, and that is why, despite my mature years and recent major knee surgery, that I am bothered.

I have bothered to make the effort to walk the streets, paths and driveways looking for letterboxes to deliver leaflets that will hopefully make people open their minds to voting Conservative.

As to why bother, if you have children, grandchildren, we should be seriously bothered. I am.

MURIEL BLYTHMAN Arrathorne, Bedale.
