Sir, – The recent production of Oklahoma by the Richmond Operatic Society in the Georgian Theatre Royal was really well presented.

This stage musical opened with Aunt Eller (played by Linda Baldry) spouting away (who incidentally portrayed her character part very well indeed), with the mixed chorus entering the stage singing Oh What a Beautiful Morning. Other principal parts were played by Chris Wellings as Curly, Laurey by Steph Sally, Will Parker by John Halliday, Jud Fry by Andy Gaines. The shy pedlar Ali Hakim by Brian Martin. All came over very well. The popular singing numbers by the mixed chorus were a joy to listen to. The choreography dancing sequences were simple but effective. The stage settings were expertly set. The orchestra was well balanced under the directorship of Jonathan Heitler, along with the superb piano playing of Gillian Ash. It is good to see more youthful talent coming through the society. Well done to the operatic production team consisting of Rhoda Fraser, Pru Nunn and other willing and necessary helpers like the back stage staff.

Truly Oklahoma was a joy to watch and listen to. Keep up the good work Richmond Operatic Society, of which I am proud to be a patron.
