MEMBERS of Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers made up about a quarter of the field of 123, as well as some of the marshals, at the tough Hooded Horse 10k, held in memory of Ben Campbell, a promising and enthusiastic runner who died several years ago in his mid 30s.
The tough figure of eight course takes in the White Horse steps and Hood Hill.
Joe Poole was the fastest club finisher in a strong field, 15th in 53.43, with Matt Jones 18th in 54.47 and Esther Harrison, really getting back into form, 21st in 55.15. Alan Simpson finished 23rd in 55.56 with Bronwyn Mayo 24th in 56.24, Joe O'Keefe 27th in 58.25, Rob Burn 32nd in 59.46, Paul Chapman 33rd in 60.34, with James Harrison closely behind, 34th in 60.38, David Tervit 35th in 61.04, Ken Wood 44th in 62.54, David Baker 52nd in 66.12, Anna Whitham 54th in 67.30, Paul Bradford 55th in 67.52, Pedro Carrasco 62nd in 70.25, Helen Ashworth 65th in 71.05, Katie Wadsworth 66th in 71.12, Duncan Fothergill, still carrying an injury, 68th in 71.36, Clare Tempest 69th in 71.48, Sarah Harrison 75th in 74.51, Andrea Colls 79th in 75.32, Lucy Sillars 82nd in 76.21, Will Jagger 85th in 77.19, Geoff Bullock 87th in 78.17, and Andrew Pollard, Ruth Pollard and Beth Haggath all finishing together in 81.05, given positions 93, 94 and 95 respectively.
Alison Butcher came 101st in 83.27, Craig Atherton 110th in 95.09, Hugh Jenyns 113th in 98.06, Denise Gandy 117th in 107.39 and Rosie Gatenby, acting as sweeper, 112.27. For many of these runners, it was the first event of that type they'd ever attempted, and certainly the hardest.
Meanwhile, the previous day, Katie Wadsworth was completing her 100th park run, at Fountains Abbey. Katie is a regular and dedicated parkrunner.
Others at Fountains Abbey were Anna Whitham, Mike Cropper, Adrian Saunders, Bronwyn Mayo, James Harrison, Paul Adams and Ian Codling.
Jason McLaughlin was amongst almost 1,000 runners at Bushy Park, Teddington, London, where the original park run was held.
