Richmond & D.M.C. Sid Morten Memorial Trial, Fremington Edge, Good Friday.
THE late Sid Morten would have been very happy with the trial that commemorates his name.
Clerk of course Paul Astwood plotted a testing course high on Fremington Edge courtesy of landowners Mr Bailey, Mr Clarke and Mr Price. The vista from the crown of the edge affords a fine view of Reeth.
Trialler Rob Waite was on hand to assist Mr Astwood and his task was to lay the course flags on the steep terrain. More than 100 competitors assembled at Reels Edge where the first of three laps started.
Predictably Richard Sadler won the hard route class from Gas Gas ace Dan Thorpe and Guy Kendrew. Jack Stones was the top Inter and fifth overall. Elliott Laws topped the novice contenders ahead of Tom Middleton and Ryan Brown.
Scott Trial winner Phil Alderson put in a cracking ride with just three penalties which left former rival Roger Williams way behind. He just edged out Mark Willis by one penalty for the runner-up place. Andy Kearton won Clubman B from Chris Laws and Hannah Richardson and Beth Waite. The Over 40s was a walkover for Adrian Harrison who lost just two penalties. Overall verdict for the trial was a day of excellence in all aspects.
