Price is right as Jack takes second consecutive Scott Trial win

Riders in the Richmond Motor Club event set off from the start field just outside of Marske, and despite low fog and a heavy rain shower first thing, the day was clear and both competitors and spectators were treated to several sunny spells throughout the day.

There were 76 sections covering approximately 87 miles over the day. Out of the 200 starters, only 101 riders finished the full course within the allowed time.

Jonathan Richardson (TRRS) was the first rider home and set standard time, completing the course in five hours and 18 seconds, but his observation score of 66 put him in joint eighth position with Andy Chilton.

Billy Green (Scorpa) won lowest score on observation, with a total of 20 marks lost, but 18 penalty points on time meant he placed third overall, just behind James Dabill (Beta) on a total of 37 marks lost (22 on observation and 15 on time).

Last year’s winner Jack Price (Vertigo) was the overall winner, dropping 21 marks on observation and getting five marks on time meant he earned a total score of 26 to put him in the clear lead.

Michael Brown (Sherco) lost 30 on observation and 13 on time, putting him five marks off the top three and landing him in fourth place.

Brothers Dan and Jack Peace (Sherco) arrived back on the start field within minutes of each other, with the sibling rivalry burning strong. Jack beat Dan on observation, losing 32 marks and 49 marks respectively. Dan’s lower time score of 15 compared to Jack’s 19 wasn’t enough for him to beat his brother, and Jack came out on top with a total of 51 marks lost, landing him a solid fifth place, with Dan closely behind in sixth.

Tom Minta (Scorpa) wasn’t quick enough to get a Gold Scott Spoon, with his time penalties bringing his score up to 65, narrowly missing his spot in the top six and receiving the Silver Scott Spoon award.

Six times winner Dougie Lampkin stepped aside from riding the event this year to support his eldest son Alfie in his first Scott Trial. Alfie followed in his father’s footsteps riding a Vertigo and received the Herbert Scott Cup for the best performance on time and observation by a first time rider, losing 49 on time and 84 on observation, giving him a total score of 133 and a Silver Scott Spoon.

Keen Scots rider Jamie Galloway (TRRS) returned to the Yorkshire Dales just over a month after winning the Mintex Youth Time & Observation Trial (AKA the “Mini Scott”) and bagged himself the Malcolm Rathmell Trophy awarded to the rider for the best performance by a rider on a machine up to and including 125cc.

It was a good day for Sherco, with eight-times women’s world championship rider Emma Bristow (Sherco) once again taking the MHT Trophy for the best performance by a female rider. The manufacturer team winner went to the Malcolm Rathmell Sport Sherco A Team; Jack Peace (51), Michael Brown (43) and Dan Peace (64).

The club team award went to the Yeadon & Guiseley A Team, composed of first place rider Jack Price (26), second place James Dabill (37) and 12th place Richard Sadler (72).
