Rounds three and four of the popular TCR UK Touring Car Championship roar into Croft Circuit this weekend (May 6/7) with an impressive 24-car grid which features an array of top names, exciting cars, and multiple champions.
Building on the fantastic 2022 season, undoubtedly TCR UK’s biggest and best in its five-year history, the opening rounds at Snetterton over the Easter weekend saw another field with incredible strength in depth do battle, who will be giving their all around North Yorkshire’s premier racetrack for a share of the impressive prize fund totalling £75,000.
At Snetterton, it was Bruce Winfield who headed home hugely successful international racer Josh Files to win round one in his Area Motorsport-run Hyundai i30 N TCR. Rising star and former Ginetta GT5 Challenge champion Lewis Brown then took victory in a dramatic round two, piloting his Chameleon Motorsport CUPRA Leon Competición TCR on his debut weekend in the championship.
Of the other star names, reigning champion and former BTCC ace Chris Smiley, entrusted with the global debut of the new Honda Civic Type R FL5 TCR run by Restart Racing, will be hoping to improve on his eighth place in the standings, whereas fellow BTCC driver Carl Boardley will be aiming to better his fourth place in the early title race in his Zest Racecar Engineering CUPRA Leon Competición TCR.
Local hopes will rest with Yorkshireman Bradley Hutchison, who will be aiming to show that the underdog can prevail on home ground as he returns for his second season with the family-run Bond It with MPHR Audi RS3 LMS TCR that he drove in 2022.
It is the first time since 2019 that the series will have visited Croft. It continues to grow globally with events in over 30 countries.
There will be a full supporting programme with the Milltek Sport Civic Cup and the BRSCC Fiesta Junior Championship, plus the Mazda MX-5 Championship and Mazda MX-5 Clubman Championship for Mk1s, and the ultra-competitive Mazda MX-5 SuperCup for Mk3s. There will also be the Nankang Tyre CityCar Cup and Student Motorsport Challenge.
The action starts at 9.30am on Saturday and 12pm on Sunday. More information can be found at www.croftcircuit.co.uk or call 01325 721815.
