The women's softball team from Northallerton Cricket Club is celebrating triple success.

The team, formed six years ago, won the Hambleton East League, league cup and the NYSD 100 ball competition this summer.

It is a remarkable success for the team, made up of supporting parents whose children played cricket and a group of secondary school aged girls who were reluctant to join in with the hardball game.

Since starting the team, members have been involved in a range of softball festivals each season and four years ago became one of the first six teams competing in the Hambleton women’s league.

The team has gone from strength to strength, with many more participants signing up each year, training regularly and competing in the league games. The league has also grown and this year there were 11 teams across the Hambleton area competing in west and east leagues.

Competing in the east league, Northallerton played each team home and away, winning each time. On the back of this unbeaten streak, they went on to win the league trophy, where they defeated the west league winners. This success took the team to the regional finals which were to be held in Leeds. Unfortunately, rain stopped play so the team will play against teams from across Yorkshire on a rearranged date at the beginning of next season.

Alongside the league games, the team also took part in the 100 Ball Women’s Softball competition, run by the NYSD league. They won each round and then were victorious in the semi final to ensure a place in the final, which took place on Sunday, September 29.

Northallerton reigned supreme once more, taking the win against a strong Whitby side. This meant that along with their triple crown, they were undefeated all season.

Each player and coach have played their part in the team's success this year and captain Jo Mottram couldn’t be prouder. "The team have gone from strength to strength this season," she said. "They have been strong in the field, supporting each other, taking wickets each game and then working hard in pairs to put on runs to win."
