History was made last weekend at the Jerez circuit in Spain when a Guisborough-based team won the 2024 World Superbike Championship for BMW for the first time.
With Turkish rider Toprak Razgatlioglu clinching his second world crown in his debut season, it marked an inaugural world title for ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK team boss Shaun Muir’s team who have been based in the Cleveland town for over 20 years.
Having won two British Superbike Championship titles with Tommy Hill in 2011 and Josh Brookes in 2015, Muir progressed to World Superbikes in 2016 and since 2019 has been the official team of BMW where he signed the Turk to front the team’s campaign this season.
Throughout the year, Razgatlioglu consistently outpaced his competitors, amassing 18 victories and 26 podium finishes to add to his first world title that he claimed in 2021 with Yamaha.
Razgatlioglu’s dominance this season was particularly evident during the Portuguese round where he set a new record with 15 consecutive victories. However, following a crash at the French round which left him injured, Toprak was forced to miss two rounds before bouncing back to clinch the title in style with two races of the season left.
