NORTHALLERTON youngster Jake Clark proved himself the most consistent rider in a field of hundreds of competitors to win a one-day event recently.
Jake, 10, won the Northern Horseboxes One Day Event Series at the Northallerton Equestrian Centre, netting a trophy and £100 prize money supplied by sponsor Northern Horseboxes, of Darlington.
Jake, of Londonderry, Northallerton, won the event on his 19-year-old pony, Herbie. He is a member of the Northallerton Riding Club and the Bedale and West of Yore Pony Club.
His mother, Louise Worsdale, also a keen rider, said: “Jake competes most weekends and is very committed. Herbie is a lovely pony who knows what he is doing and they make a great partnership.”
Jake was one of 180 riders who competed in each monthly event from May to September at the equestrian centre in Yafforth.
To ensure a level playing field, competitors were placed in three classes based upon their experience: Triers, Novices and Open.
Each competed in the traditional eventing disciplines of dressage, show jumping and cross country, across courses designed by Moray Nicholson.
Caz Pring, manager of the centre, said: “Each rider was awarded points for their performance throughout the series, with winners receiving rosettes from Northern Horseboxes for each event. Jake was competing in the Triers class and his scores were so consistently good that he took the prize as the overall winner.Wewerealldelightedfor him – he is a mashing lad.”
The series was so successful that the equestrian centre is considering running a two-day event next year as part of the series.
