ON the tense final day of the Nidderdale Cricket League, Middleham secured promotion to division two.

Only two out four teams could be promoted and there were many telephone calls between the different games to find out the state of play.

Middleham played a reduced overs game of 20 overs against Killinghall seconds due to the ground being still very soft after the rain of the previous week.

Killinghall batted first and got 72-8 with Tony Marshall taking 4-40.

In reply, Middleham took only 14 overs to reach the target for the loss of just one wicket, securing promotion behind Pateley Bridge who finished top of division three.

Middleham now looks forward to next season in division two against new teams and strong opposition. Middleham also won the Towler Cup earlier in the summer beating Newton le Willows in the final.

This year Middleham started a junior section and have two ECB level-two coaches. The under-15s team finished third in the Darlington and District league.

The club also started junior coaching for those aged 12 years and under on Sunday mornings and for over 12s on Thursday evenings.
