TRAINER David Easterby trained five of the seven winners at the Middleton Point to Point meeting held at Whitwell on the Hill on the Sunday before last.
Easterby’s third winner came in the feature race, the four-mile Grimthorpe Gold Cup which was won by Eric Brooke’s Network Oscar, ridden by Tom Greenall. Firm ground meant that only four runners faced the starter and the odds on favourite was never seriously threatened.
The veteran Snizort made most of the running under Steve Charlton but Network Oscar cruised past him three from home and cantered to a 20-length win. Snizort kept on to take second.
First winner for Easterby came in the members race.
My Old Piano, ridden by Greenall, travelled easily throughout the race and sauntered home for a five length win.
There were three winners for Greenall at the meeting.
He partnered Impact Zone, another Easterby inmate, in the Intermediate. Dannymalone looked to have this one won after making much of the running under Simon Walker, but Impact Zone finished with a fair rattle and got his head in front close home as he won by two lengths.
Dannymalone finished second five lengths in front of Abandon Ship who was ridden by Richard Smith.
In the restricted, another Easterby winner was Quntin De Lobo who was ridden by Toby Greenall. The eightyear- old led from the second, he was hard pressed by Fli Mi Son, ridden by Mark Walford but held on well to win by half a length.
The fifth Easterby win came when Jake Greenall partnered Totally Beat to win the Young Horses Maiden.
The gelding went to the front two out and he got the better of second placed Tabloid, who could only stay on at one pace under Tom Greenall and the favourite Lucky For Laura who was outpaced back in third under Richard Smith.
Miles Seston interrupted the Greenall domination of the meeting by picking up a riding double. Ballybrakes, trained by Nichola Naughton, made every yard of the running to win the Club race.
Baron Romeo and Benwell both mounted challenges two from home but Seston had kept enough in the tank to defy all challengers and keep on well for a two and a half-length win. Baron Romeo, ridden by John Birbeck finished second a length in front of the Rachel Clark ridden Benwell.
Seston completed his double on the Cherry Cowardtrained Hailes Hill Lad. The eight-year-old was strongly ridden to hold off the late challenge of Wantage Road, ridden by Jake Greenall.
Hailes Hill Lad winning by a head.
