TRAINER Mary Sowersby picked up a double at the Cleveland Point to Point held at Howe Hills last Saturday.
First leg came in the Members race when Cherryland took the race. Ridden by the highly promising Colm Mc- Cormack, Cherryland quickened impressively down the home straight and forged clear for a 15-length win.
Northern Banner, ridden by Katie Bannon, took second at 20-1.
The Sowersby double was completed when Guy Brewer partnered Forge Valley to victory in the 2m 4f Maiden.
Forge Valley was held up in the early stages, he made good progress to join the leaders at the top of the straight and stayed on strongly to win by four lengths.
A good race for second saw Lewesdon Duchess, ridden by Chris Dawson who just held off the fast finishing Special Portrait who was ridden by Tom Greenall by half a neck.
The Graham Russ-owned and trained Oaklands Luis sprung a 10-1 surprise in the Mixed Open. Oaklands Luis went well throughout. He joined long-time leaders Loutin Du Moulin, ridden by Tom Greenall and Forty Shakes, ridden by Chris Dawson, on the run to the last.
There were three in the air together at the fence but Oaklands Luis ran on best to win by a length.
Forty Shakes was second with Lutin Du Moulin back in third.
Another big priced winner was the 20-1 shot Queenies Girl. The 13-year-old was ridden by trainer Paul Frank and showed a major return to form in the Confined Hunts race.
Queenies Girl raced prominently and after taking the lead three from home never looked like being pegged back despite the efforts of Browns Beck who was a length down at the line. Steve Charlton riding David Brydon’s horse.
A competitive Restricted race went to the Sarah Dent trained The Viking. John Dawson timed his run to perfection on the 9-1 shot tackling the leader Its Teescomponents on the run to the last and with Its Teescomponents, ridden by Colm Mc- Cormack, only able to keep on at one pace The Viking ran on for a length win.
Two lengths further back in third was Goforthegap, who was ridden by Tom Greenall.
A family riding double was completed when Chris Dawson won the Open Maiden beating his brother John into second place.
Chris Dawson partnered the Maria Myco trained Racing Ace who justified significant market support.
John Dawson partnered Pop Play Again, who is trained by the rider of the winner.
Racing Ace and Pop Play Again couldn’t separated at the last but Chris Dawson forced his mount clear close home to win by one and a half lengths.
