A TOTAL of 160 trials riders from all parts of the country converged on the Flask Inn, Whitby, at the weekend for the East Yorks Centre twoday trial.

Winner for the second year running was Whitby rider Andy Chilton on the Beta. After a relatively easy Saturday, six riders remained unpenalised, Chilton, Adam Milner, Tony Scarlett, Dave Pye, Matt Maynard and Richie Kendra.

Sunday was all about pressure and first to drop marks were Pye, Scarlett and Kendra, then Howell.

Maynard kept the pressure on until the very last section which took a five off him. Chilton kept it together to clean the last and finish with a loss of just three marks, to head off a determined challenge from young Bradley Cox as he matched Chilton’s score on Sunday, but the two marks lost on Saturday meant runner-up position for the youngster.

Scarborough’s James Carr rode the AM Ossa into third place on eight marks lost and Adam Milner, from Leavening, was fourth on ten, with Port Mulgrave’s Jack Howell, fifth.

MORE than 50 riders turned out at Buttsfield Quarry, in County Durham on Saturday for the latest offering from Consett Motor Club, who laid on four laps of ten sections, with two courses, plus a separate purple route for the youth riders.

Olivia Pearson had a tremendous ride to take the purple route win by a convincing margin from Dan Hodgson and Kian Dawson.

Olivia dropped just six in total, half of which went on section four, where only Amy Turpin would remain clean. The winner’s best rides were on section six, where she alone would go unpenalised while the rest of the entry were struggling.

Not to be outdone, Olivia’s dad, Andy, made it a family double by taking the easy course win on four, all lost on the last two sections, finishing two ahead of Brian Ridley, himself five ahead of third placed Ryan Chapman.

Colin Ward and Ian Stephen both went clean on the clubman route, where Eddie Aitkin needed a prod each on sections seven and nine, to end his day on two and in third spot. David Braithwaite emulated Aitkin’s single dabs, but had another two on section two, which pushed him into fourth place.
